World Food Program USA welcomes announcement of $800M+ funding from U.S. Department of State to World Food Programme

World Food Program USA welcomes the announcement of more than $800 million in funding from the United States Department of State to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) at a moment when global hunger has reached unprecedented levels.

Around the world, conflict, economic instability, climate shocks and displacement are driving millions of families deeper into hunger. Recent analyses show that acute food insecurity remains at alarmingly high levels, with hunger crises increasingly concentrated in countries facing protracted conflict and instability.

This contribution demonstrates the enduring leadership of the United States in confronting one of the defining humanitarian challenges of our time. We thankthe United States administration for this generous commitment. We also appreciate the strong bipartisan support from Members of Congress who continue to recognize the importance of addressing global hunger and instability. For decades, support from the American people and bipartisan leaders in Congress has enabled WFP to deliver lifesaving assistance in the world’s toughest emergencies, helping families survive crisis, preventing famine and fostering greater stability in fragile regions. The United States remains a leading and generous donor to global efforts to address hunger and humanitarian needs.

“At a time when hunger is rising and humanitarian needs continue to outpace available resources, this investment will help WFP save lives and preserve hope for millions of people facing unimaginable hardship,” said Barron Segar, World Food Program USA President and CEO. “America’s leadership has long been the backbone of the global fight against hunger, and today’s announcement reaffirms our nation’s commitment to standing with vulnerable communities around the world.”

WFP remains on the front lines of emergencies across dozens of countries where families are struggling to access enough nutritious food. Sustained U.S. support enables WFP to reach people in crisis quickly and efficiently while advancing broader goals of global stability, security and prosperity.
