Honoring Executive Director Cindy McCain’s Service to WFP

World Food Program USA extends our sincerest gratitude and thanks to Executive Director Cindy McCain for her extraordinary service to the World Food Programme (WFP) and unwavering commitment to ending global hunger. Having concluded her tenure with WFP, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of leadership, resilience and impact—strengthening the organization during pivotal moments and ensuring it is well positioned to carry forward its vital mission.

Under her leadership, WFP navigated unprecedented hunger, mounting crises and growing humanitarian complexity. She rose to meet these challenges with clarity and resolve, streamlining the organization and increasing the efficiency and agility of its operations. She mobilized critical resources amid tightening global budgets and rallied more than $2 billion in emergency funding from donor governments in 2024. She also expanded and diversified partnerships, helping raise more than $1.1 billion since 2023 from the private sector, foundations and philanthropic partners to support life-saving food assistance throughout the world.

No matter the challenges, Executive Director McCain persevered and ensured that WFP continued to reach more than 100 million people in need each year. In addition to sustaining large emergency operations, WFP expanded key programs like school feeding and prioritized innovation, leveraging the latest AI and digital analytics technology to optimize operations.

As a tireless advocate for the world’s most vulnerable, Executive Director McCain elevated global awareness of the importance of global food security, strengthened humanitarian diplomacy, and championed the protection of humanitarian workers. On Capitol Hill, she advanced America’s legacy of global food assistance, strengthening bipartisan support and reinforcing the importance of Food for Peace and the essential role of American farmers and commodities in saving lives.

We thank Executive Director McCain for her remarkable leadership and enduring contributions to WFP and the world.
