World Food Program USA is deeply concerned by the escalating conflict in Lebanon. We are closely monitoring the unfolding situation and stand ready to support the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)’s response.

The U.N. World Food Programme has operated in Lebanon for 10 years, and it will continue to provide unconditional food assistance to impacted groups. In preparation for potential escalations in conflict, WFP prepositioned food supplies in Lebanon with the ability to assist up to 1 million people through a mix of cash, food, ready-to-eat rations, and hot meals.

In the past 24 hours, WFP has reached 20,200 of the newly displaced people. WFP has dispatched food parcels containing ready-to-eat food (including bread) and dry commodities for 2,000 people staying in shelters. WFP also dispatched 5-day rations (including canned food) for 18,200 people in 65 shelters. WFP has been actively responding to the needs of displaced families in southern Lebanon, providing food rations, cash assistance and monthly school meals to 240,000 people since October 2023.

Additional resources are urgently needed to sustain WFP’s existing assistance in southern Lebanon and to scale it up. WFP is currently operating in areas where it is safe to do so, cognizant of the fact that reaching beneficiaries in need is an absolute priority. We appeal to everyone who has influence to do what they can to avoid a region-wide war.

World Food Program USA stands committed to the people of Lebanon and everyone affected by this regional conflict and will do everything we can to reach vulnerable families in their time of great need. But we can’t do it without the support of donors. Please join us as we work to feed millions of vulnerable people.

Donate to help the people of Lebanon.
