WFP Responds to Hurricane Melissa

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, WFP is rushing food and essential supplies to affected communities across the Caribbean. By sea and air, we are deploying lifesaving assistance and surge teams as quickly as possible.

Port-au-Prince warehouse where we store over 2,000 metric tons of food for sudden emergencies as well as for the school feeding programme. Right now, every week eight trucks are dispatched from this warehouse to support families that are affected by gang violence and WFP is preparing for the beginning of the school year.

Ahead of Hurricane Melissa, WFP sent early warning messages, pre-positioned food stocks in critical locations and provided cash distributions to families in the storm’s path.
