Ghana

Over the last 20 years, Ghana has made significant progress towards reducing poverty and hunger levels. However, climate-related shocks and conflict are driving extreme hunger across the country.

Poor Food Systems

Hunger in Ghana is rising. The number of people experiencing extreme hunger has nearly doubled since 2024 to 2 million. Poverty is widespread, and violence in neighboring Burkina Faso is driving an influx of refugees into northern Ghana, placing further strain on limited resources. Compounding these drivers of hunger are persistent climate-related shocks. The country experienced a prolonged dry spell in 2024 that affected nearly 1 million farmers.
