World Food Program USA Announces Urgent $25 Million Emergency Relief Fund to Help Fill WFP’s Global Humanitarian Funding Shortfall Before It’s Too Late

The Fund will provide 50 million meals to people facing catastrophic hunger
Washington, D.C. (March 31, 2025) – In response to an urgent funding shortfall warning from World Food Programme (WFP) last week, World Food Program USA today launched the Emergency Hunger Relief Fund. The fund aims to raise more than $25 million in private sector and individual donor support in the United States to help fill funding gaps for WFP programs that provide lifesaving assistance to 58 million people on the brink of starvation.
Due to current low funding levels, WFP warns that programs across 28 critical crisis response operations face imminent pipeline breaks through August. For more information, visit this link.
“For the past two years, despite the generosity of many governments and individual donors, WFP has experienced a steady decline in funding. These cuts are pushing tens of millions of people who depend on WFP toward catastrophic hunger,” said Barron Segar, World Food Program USA president and CEO. “Never have the stakes been higher. We urgently need an infusion of support from individuals and the private sector here in the U.S. to help continue WFP’s lifesaving work.”
This weekend’s 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar comes on top of an already severe food crisis. In countries experiencing emergencies, hunger is at even greater risk, and WFP’s help is critical.
Flexible funding from individuals and the private sector enables WFP to direct funds where they are most needed. To donate to the Emergency Hunger Relief Fund, click this link.
