Tony Fratto Joins World Food Program USA Board of Directors

Washington, D.C. – World Food Program USA announced today that former White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto has joined the non-profit’s board of directors, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in global economic and development policy.

“I’m so proud to join WFP USA’s board. I believe the World Food Programme is the single most focused and effective humanitarian aid agency in the world,” Fratto said.

 

“This organization does amazing work fighting hunger and saving lives during emergencies, political strife, and natural disasters—and it also attacks the complex, longer-term challenge countries face to prevent food crises and to improve nutrition,” he said. “I’m excited to help the World Food Programme and WFP USA achieve their goals.”

From 2006 to 2009, Fratto served as Principal Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to President George W. Bush. During his tenure in the White House, Fratto worked with the President and the administration’s senior economic policy, national security and legal teams, and communicated international and domestic policy issues to the media. At the height of the global food crisis, Fratto and the administration supported food assistance around the world, including the United Nations World Food Programme.

“Throughout his career, Tony has been fighting on behalf of millions of people in need around the world,” said WFP USA President and CEO Richard Leach.

 

“From advancing global initiatives to fight HIV/AIDS to expanding food assistance for the most vulnerable, he has been a leader in the effort to end hunger and poverty.”

Prior to joining the White House, Fratto served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, overseeing U.S. economic policy, financial regulation and international development. He is a founding Partner at Hamilton Place Strategies, a communications consulting firm, and a member of the Bretton Woods Committee.

At WFP USA, Fratto will help shape U.S. public policy on global hunger relief by working with members of Congress and the administration. He joins an impressive roster of board members at WFP USA that includes former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, former Senator Bob Dole, former Representative Jo Ann Emerson and board chairman Hunter Biden. George McGovern served on the board until he passed away in October 2012.
