July 15, 2024 (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The World Food Program USA community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of former United Nations World Food Programme Executive Director James T. Morris. After his term ended, he served on World Food Program USA’s Advisory Council, helping to deepen support for the agency in the United States among policymakers and the public.

“Jim Morris was a remarkable person and leader who will be deeply missed. He will be remembered for his selflessness, dedication and inspiring service to others. His efforts at the U.N. World Food Programme and beyond helped bring global hunger into the American consciousness and changed countless lives,” said Barron Segar, President and CEO of World Food Program USA. “Our hearts are with his family and friends during this time.”

Morris led the U.N. World Food Programme from 2002-2007, guiding it through what was then the largest humanitarian operation in history – providing food assistance to some 26 million Iraqis in 2003-2004.  Under his leadership, the U.N. World Food Programme was also one of the key responders to the Indian ocean tsunami.

Prior to leading the U.N. World Food Programme, Morris combined a distinguished career of business, philanthropic and humanitarian leadership with a personal life of public service.
