In the wake of an unprecedented emergency — the risk of famine in four countries — the World Food Programme (WFP) is bringing everyday people to the frontline in Yemen, through their cell phones.

WFP’s ShareTheMeal app is bringing Yemen to the forefront of its innovative mobile interface, allowing users the ability to donate to children impacted by the crisis. The goal: Feed them with 1 million meals.

By tapping on the app’s large yellow button, users can give anywhere from a day’s worth of food to a year’s worth of food for one child. So far, users of the app have provided over 52,000 WFP meals to children in Yemen.

Especially now — when a child under age five dies every 10 minutes in Yemen — the seamless ability to give directly from a cell phone makes a world of difference. Children are fighting famine, and they need your help.
