Press Releases

In the week since the earthquake struck Haiti, more than 250,000 ready-to-eat food rations have been distributed by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and the U.S. military.  WFP is streaming humanitarian assistance into Haiti, opening up air, sea and land corridors, and rehabilitating emergency telecommunications systems for the entire humanitarian community.

PORT-AU-PRINCE – The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) is appealing for $279 million to feed 2 million people and provide logistical support for a 6-month Emergency Operation in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, January 18, Long Island business leader Frank Mitchell Corso, Jr. will receive the Economic Development Award from the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee of Nassau County in recognition of his contributions to the areas of business development and minorities in business in Nassau County and beyond.

Rising threats and attacks on humanitarian operations, as well as the imposition of a string of unacceptable demands from armed groups, have made it virtually impossible for the World Food Program (WFP) to continue reaching up to one million people in need in southern Somalia.
